Young trees are usually susceptible to cracking because the bark will be very thin. Splitting of bark might happen for several reasons like sudden fluctuation in temperature (too hot or cold), dry weather followed by wet weather, expose of trunk to hot sunlight (sun scorch), improper application of fertilizers or due to disease.
Though rooting is not normal, the tree might have taken advantage of crack to produce roots and draw moisture. I believe it won't cause any problem, but keep an eye on the crack since it might act as an entry point for pests and pathogens.
