Potato plants have specific symptoms that look to me as virus, what is it really? Symptoms have appeared in the end of July. up to 30% of plants have them without any certain local difference across the field.

I received this from Jan Kreuze and the International Potato Centre

"This doesn’t look viral, based on the description about distribution in the field, our best guess is phytotoxicity to some pesticide/chemical used, suggest that he checks what he has been applying to the field recently."

Thanks

I agree with Jan, due to the pattern and distribution of the browning it looks like a chemical burn on the upper leaf surfaces. Viral infections (depending on the virus of course) typically show yellowing chlorosis starting from the veins in a more continuous pattern rather than brown patches near the vein.
