Can I salvage overwatered pepper seedlings?

Pepper, bell    Zone 7

I made the mistake of entrusting the care of my seedlings to my neighbors kid while I was away for a few days and when I got home last night I found that my peppers are really wet and some looking sorry for themselves. There was so much water that if I pressed my finger down into the soil I could see water pooling round my finger. The plants mostly seem remarkably well so I'm hoping this was a one off oversight the night before I came back. There are a few that are wilting though. I have done my best to mop up the water and let the trays drain over the sink, but they are still too wet. I'd really appreciate any advice for drying these guys out, will the wilted ones recover or should I toss them?

Add uncooked rice to a platter or bowl and place your plants (still in their pots) on top/inside. The rice should absorb excess water, check it to make sure it doesn't absorb all the water though. Adding a layer of rice to the top and patting it down slightly might be a bit easier for you.

Ed Simmons commented,
Great idea r.e. putting rice under pots. I knew you could do this with electrical stuff that has gotten water in it but it had not crossed my mind to use it for this. Thanks a lot for the suggestion, I'm going to give this a try in an attempt to not disturb the roots and if they are still too wet then I will do what Danny suggests. Well, I think it is sensible to keep them out of bright light too for now
