Naturally fig trees take three to six years to produce fruit. In general they need 100 to 200 chill hour (i.e., any hour under 45°F) and can be grown in Zone 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Also it need full sunlight and well drained soil. Poor or no fruit production in fig may be due adverse weather conditions (example very hot and dry weather kills bud and flowers) or may be due to no/excess application of fertilizer.

Management:
1. Water the tree only when it is necessary and provide proper drainage to soil (because tree suffers under water logging condition).
2. Keep the tree base free from weeds and other plants.
3. If you are not using fertilizer, apply recommended quantity (8-8-8 NPK) of fertilizers once a year. Best during late winter, 2 to 3 times at 6 to 8 weeks interval.
If you are using excess fertilizer skip application for a season to stimulate fruiting.
4. Though pruning is not compulsory for fig tree, it is better prune tree once year during late winter and tip pinching in summer helps in increasing fruit yield.
