Leaves dropping from gooseberry

How do I treat leaf drop on gooseberry bushes? This is the second season when the leaves have fallen completely from the branches of my gooseberry bushes despite some pruning to let in more air and light?

Have you seen any other symptoms on the leaves prior to the leaves falling off? almost 9 years ago.
No! I did find just three or four tiny green caterpillars but cannot think they did all the damage! almost 9 years ago.
Could you post some images of the plants? almost 9 years ago.
