Leaves break at petiole
Banana None Given
I have a banana plant in my yard, about 2 m tall, don't remember the variety, that produces large, beautiful leaves. When they fully extend, the petiole bends and the leaf dies. This plant makes leaves one after the other, they just extend, expand, and break off. No sign of pests or pathogens, at least easy to spot ones. Any ideas? I'm in North-Central Florida.

The question is far too general. At least some pictures of the disorder are needed. Also, information about the environmental and soil conditions would be helpful. What other crops are there in your yard that may carry virus diseases ? Some viruses are symptomless ( or latent ) in some crops until the plant suddenly dies. Testing sap of your banana plant on a suitable host range for viruses may shed some light on the phenomenon observed.

One issue that can cause snapping is fungal damage (brown tissue) or insect damage. But for this we do need images
