Ginger Crop Management

Ginger    None Given

I am a ginger farmer. We have planted ginger on June 12th. We continuously received rain for 20 days in the month of September and we couldn't provide enough fertilize dosage. Its been 4 months after planting and I have following question.
1. How long can I fertilize ginger plants? I heard that we can fertilize upto 6 months after planting.
2. What should be ideal height of plant to get maximum yield.
3. Can we spray GA3 or ethereal now to get good vegetative growth, more shoots and bigger leaf size etc?
4. What can we do to get maximum yield and bigger size of rhizome?
5. we have used 15mt/acre of cow dung at the time of planting. Should be use vermicompost 200kg/acre now to get better yield?

Thanks a lot in advance for the help.

Ginger is very exhaustive crop which require more nutrients. The dose of fertilizers application depends on soil type, region and cultivation practice. So it is always better to go for soil testing before planting.
Please provide more information on variety you are growing , soil type, exact location etc.

1. According to Indian Institute of Spice Research, nitrogen and potassium should be applied at 2 to 3 split dose as a top dress at 45, 90 and 120 days after planting. But phosphorus should be applied in full dose at the time of planting at the base. Please see the attached screen shot for more information.

2. It is very hard to tell the ideal height since it depends on cultivar which you grow, climatic condition and management practices.

3. GA3 is generally used for fruit, vegetable and leaf crops. Normally not recommended at this stage of crop.

4. For higher yield you can apply micronutrients as foliar spray (@ 5 g per liter) during 60 and 90 days after planting.

5. Farm yard manure or compost should be applied only during initial soil preparation and at planting time since they take more time to decompose and release nutrients to soil.

Thank you so much for your valuable guidance. I have attached soil test results in my updated question above as I didnt see any option to attach with my comment. Nutrient recommendation in the report were for Grapes but we planted Ginger and making changes as per crop response. Farm is located in Bidar district of Karnataka (Tq: Basavkalyan). We are growing Mahim variety on raised beds. We will not use FYM now and we will avoid GA3 and follow other instructions. Thanks.
