Please give me reasons and solutions to get bacterial leaf blight (BLB) disease in rice for disease screening.

Hi Natataj, I hope I understand you request correctly. Are you inquiring about the benefits of rice diseases screening for LBL? If so, Bacterial Leaf Blight (BLB), caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, is a very destructive disease and has become a major disease after the introduction and widespread cultivation of high yielding but susceptible rice cultivars. Consequently, comprehensive studies on pathogen diversity provides useful information on the population structure and resistance genes used in breeding programs. It would be useful to investigate the possibility of transferring the resistance genes identified into elite materials through marker-assisted and participatory varietal selections (http://scialert.net/abstract/?doi=ajp...).

Hope this helps

It sounds like you are doing screening for cultivar resistance or tolerance of BLB? There are a few steps to preventing infection in your rice field, so just do the exact opposite of good cultural controls to encourage disease.

-high humidity: I use sprinklers or overhead mist sprayers. Extend your leaf wetness period as much as possible.
-high nitrogen: Extremely high nitrogen will cause succulent and very susceptible fast growth.
-weeds: allowing some weeds into the rice field will help increase humidity and can also act as secondary hosts/reservoirs for disease.

These can help encourage disease, but the pathogen already needs to be in your area for success. If you know of other growers who already have infection you can easily bring some infected plants into your field.

Good luck with the disease screening!
